Attention Shoplifters....Oh, I mean Photo-lifters!

I guess I will be creating a watermark for my photos soon, because someone swiped one of my photos off of my blog, somewhere around the 21st of July.  When I logged on to my blog sometime after that, it said a photo had been removed and I was shocked to find that my background was completely gone, just solid white! Fortunately, I was able to reinstall my background and nothing else was messed up, at least I don't think so, the rest appears to be ok.

Anyway, that's never happened before, so I wasn't sure what to do, but I think there's a way to track it, isn't there?  Does anyone know if you can track it, to see who took the photo?

Here's the thing....If any of you would like one of my photos, just leave me a comment and ask me if you can have a copy, especially if you're one of my friends or maybe you happen to be in the picture.....I would be more than happy to email it to you!

I have so many pictures, that I haven't added on my blog for this very reason, until I get a watermark on them, so hopefully I will get to that soon!

Ok, well that about sums it up, so NO MORE PHOTO LIFTING....PLEASE!  Haven't y'all seen those signs in the stores that say, "Shoplifters Will Be Prosecuted!"  Maybe we need to make a sign for "Photo-lifters!"  LOL

  1. What? I didn't even know this was possible! If someone copied it I would think it would show up on the blog. I've had people ask if they could take my pictures and never had that happen.
Anyway - sorry you had to deal with this!

  2. Mari, I knew you could do it because a friend of mine told me once, that he had swiped a pic off of my blog, which at the time didn't even bother me because it was a pic of his child and most importantly, it didn't mess up my blog.

But this has never happened before, where it wiped out my background, plus let me know that a picture had been removed. So of course from now on I'd rather email the pics to whoever wants them.

It's very easy to steal a pic off of someone's blog, website or facebook, that's why so many people are smart and put watermarks on their photos. I guess it's time for me to get smart too! LOL

  3. I'm with Mari, I didn't know it could mess up your blog! I have asked Mari for a picture before (she has so many gorgeous ones!) did they hack into your blog? I have never put a watermark on mine...mainly because I don't know how to do it....but maybe I should. Of course, for me, I might be excited that someone wanted one of my pics!!! ha! ha!

  4. Hmm... I can't be positive, but what usually happens when the blog background disappears is that the blog background image was removed from photobucket, which is where "cutest blog on the block" stores their background images. Does that make sense? It's an image that they host on photobucket... I have seen this happen many times to friends' blogs. It's like they time out or something, after a handful of months and must be re installed from the website. Perhaps photobucket doesn't let "cutest blog on the block" leave their backgrounds up there for longer than 6 months. I have no idea. :) But perhaps that is the image that was "stolen"? So yeah... many blogs "go white" after many months just because the code no longer is valid for the "cutest blog on the block". Hope that helps! I have a little bit of code on my blog that doesn't allow people to R click on any image, neat huh? God bless!

  5. Ok, so Jenny maybe that's what happened! I've used "cutest blog on the block" for quite awhile now and have never had this happen before. I've changed my background a couple of times over the past 2 years and I haven't even had this one as long the other one. Weird! Oh well, anyway I'm glad you gave me a heads up about it.

So my next question is, where did you get the code, that doesn't allow people to R click on an image?

  6. Debra, I cannot remember where I got the code! I'm so sorry... but I'm sure that you can google it and find it! :) Let me know if you can't and I'll look for it too. :) Or I can even email you my code, and you just insert your own name into the appropriate place.

  7. That is so weird I didn't know such a thing could happen. That is too bad. I enjoy your photos so much.

  8. I didn't know this was possible that you could lose the background. I'm sorry you had this trouble but glad to see your colour background is back. I don't use Photobucket, I did one or twice, but didn't think it was as good as Picasa. You can have a watermark added with them (Picasa) but must admit I haven't utilised this.
I think there's something you can do to make it almost impossible for others to make a copy, Flicker has something like this. Good luck and have a good week ahead.☺
