Cherry Cobbler ~ (my son's favorite!)

This is a recipe, that I got from my sister-in-law, years ago and it happens to be my son's favorite! Michael and Jaymie just came for a visit and you know how it is.....when your child comes home.....they always want mom to make their favorites for them. So, I made him, his Cherry Cobbler and he was very happy! Andy went to DQ and bought a couple of quarts of vanilla icecream to put on top and we were all happy! Anyway, just thought I would share the recipe, but just know that this is not a healthy recipe in the least bit, but who cares.....it is soooo good!

1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar
2 cups bisquick
1 cup milk
4 cups cherries ( I use two 20 oz. cans of Wilderness Cherry filling/topping. These are sweetened.)
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup sugar (to sprinkle on top)

Combine first 4 ingredients. Pour into 13 x 9 baking dish. Spoon on cherries, sprinkle on the 1/2 c. sugar, then add water. Bake on 350 for 45 minutes.

*For blackberry cobbler or any unsweetened berry or cherries ~ use 1 whole cup of sugar sprinkled on top!

Update on JR...

I received an update on JR, from Carol, so I will just share her email with you.

Here it is...

Hi DJ... we just got home from seeing JR and Cassie and we are so excited! We were there when the doc came in this afternoon and were able to ask questions and hear the whole story... there was in fact a little bit of scar tissue that was causing a little "teathering" of the cord, which she cleaned up, freeing the cord. The main problem was a fairly good size area of fluid build up which she drained which was causing alot of pressure on the nerves in the area which should now be relieved! It should free up the spinal fluid to flow normally now and should also take care of the 2 pockets of fluid they have known about for some time now.

We are already seeing great results!! His little feet were warm for the first time in months!! His feet have been ice cold and so tight from swelling for quite a while and that is all gone... also, we were amazed at how much he actually moved his feet, we even saw movement in his right leg that we have never seen before!

They also are hopeful that the bladder and bowel problems will resolve and the fluid pocket higher up on his cord will go away taking pressure off the nerves that they feel were interferring with chewing solid food and use of his tongue for speech! AND, they also feel that the scoliosis may also be helped by this!!! Of course they say "We are keeping our fingers crossed", but we know better!!

The miracles continue in this little boy and we are so thankful to God and for all the prayers. Continue to pray that all these problems continue to go away and he heal fast and stay free from infection and any complications. He needs to stay flat for 48 hrs to prevent spinal headaches. And to Pastor and Loren... you guys are AWESOME!!! Your presence meant alot to Cassie and Kenny! We will go up again tomorrow. Love, Carol

JR is out of surgery...

Carol (JR's grandma) just called me to let me know that JR is out of surgery. Apparently, the problem was not scar tissue, like the doctor had expected. It turned out to be fluid build up in his spinal canal, in the area of the defect, that was causing all the pressure on the nerves and the circulation problems etc. I think they were able to drain the fluid to relieve the pressure, so I think that means it should solve those related nerve and circulation problems. This is clearly an answer to our prayers! Carol said, she still doesn't know what has caused the curvature of his spine though, so hopefully the doctor will figure that out next. Thank you to all of you who have been praying for JR.......I know his parents and grandparents are very grateful!

Prayer for JR

Please pray for precious little JR, as he goes in for surgery at 7:30 a.m. in the morning. JR was born with Spina Bifida and has had a very long road thus far, but trust me, he is quite a trooper!

Tomorrow during surgery, they will be getting rid of scar tissue that has built up around his spine, from his very first surgery. They believe the scar tissue is what has caused the curvature in his spine, which is putting pressure on nerves and blood vessels, causing decreased circulation to his legs and feet, loss of some nerve function and bowel and bladder problems. He also has a couple of places where fluid has built up around his spine. Due to pressure sores on his feet, he is unable to use his RGO's which help him walk with his little walker thing. (Sorry Cassie, I'm not quite sure of all of the technical terms and things!)

Look at the glee on his little face! This was the first time he had ever been up on his feet walking. (I'm not sure how the RGO's work, but as you can see, he's lovin' it!) You should see him get around in his little wheelchair.....I'll have to get a picture to share.

He's lookin' a little tuckered out from this new thing called, "walking!"

Isn't he adorable?

JR and his sister Jena! Aren't they so cute?

Cassie, Kenny and JR!

Apparently, the surgery could take several hours and as I'm sure all of you know......any surgery on or around the spine is very dangerous, so please be praying for God to direct the surgeon's hands. Also pray for:

the surgeon to be able to straighten out his spine

to restore the circulation to his legs and feet

to restore nerve function

to get rid of the fluid build up on his spine

that there would be minimal scar tissue from this surgery

and lastly....pray for Kenny and Cassie and their family!

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. (Philippians 4:6)

Worship and Praise Sunday

***(don't forget to pause my music player in the right sidebar, before playing the video)

Today I am sharing Holy Roar by Christy Nockels

Trees of life are blooming
Your word plants the seed
And we see it growing
Your kindness leading to repentance
We see traces of deliverance
Lord, thank You for mercy

Chorus:
Oh, can you hear it?
It's the song of the redeemed
The pursuit of passion for the One who set us free
Oh can you hear it?
We're crying out for more
So listen to our song
It's turning into a holy roar
A holy roar

Rivers of renewal
Spirit whisper a revival
And send us rushing
Lord send us rushing..
Open hearts with hopes of unity
We're servants to love in lost humanity
Lord send us reaching

Chorus

And we come rejoicing and singing and crying out to You Lord
Can You hear the holy roar
As we respond to Who You are and all that You have done
Lord with our lives, with all that we are
We return to You, Oh God
You are holy God
We lay down our lives, our songs, these tears, Lord
Can You hear the holy roar? These cries, these prayers...
Can You hear the holy roar? Still hear the holy roar

Flashback Friday

Can you see the terror on my face, through that fake smile? Just as the picture was being snapped, the leopard turned it's head and brushed up against my head. Talk about freak me out! The hair raised on the back of my neck and every muscle in my body tensed up, as it sniffed my hair! I was mostly frightened for Michael, but he wasn't the least bit scared. He wanted to pet that big kitty cat. We sat down and he said, "Hi, ki--y, ki--y!" (He didn't pronounce the t's yet.) Wasn't he cute? This pic was taken in 1987.

Notice the football shirt with the number 33 on it........that was his daddy's football number! Maybe one of these Flashback Fridays, I'll post some of Andy's newspaper clippings, from his football scrapbook. He was the star running back for his school, but most importantly, he's a star to me!

Worship and Praise Sunday ~ At the Foot of the Cross

***(don't forget to pause my music player in the right sidebar, before playing the video)

Today I am sharing At the Foot of the Cross by Kathryn Scott

At the foot of the cross
Where grace and suffering meet
You have shown me Your love
Through the judgment You received

And You've won my heart
Yes You've won my heart
Now I can

Trade these ashes in for beauty
And wear forgiveness like a crown
Coming to kiss the feet of mercy
I lay every burden down
At the foot of the cross

At the foot of the cross
Where I am made complete
You have given me life
Through the death You bore for me

I'm laying every burden down
I'm laying every burden down

I fell in love with this song, the moment I heard it! The words are so meaningful and not only am I reminded of the meaning of the cross and the death Jesus bore for me, but I am reminded to lay every burden down.

Please hop on over to my friend Brittany's blog at SweetNothings, where she is hosting Worship and Praise Sunday and you can listen to more great songs. There you will also find instructions, if you would like to link up, to add your song/video.

Flashback Friday

I ran across these pictures the other day and thought I would show everyone, what a tomboy, I was. These were taken in Canon City, Colorado, when I was there for the summer. I was 16 at the time and I LOVED riding motorcycles! My favorite thing was riding up and down the foothills! They have tons of foothills there......they are also referred to as, hogbacks. You can find lots of fossils on them too and in the winter we would go sledding down them.

In this first picture, I am coming up the foothill......can you see me? I'm at the bottom of the hill! This picture doesn't show it, but a little past halfway up, it pretty much goes straight up the foothill, so if you don't make it, you're in trouble. I wiped out a couple of times and unfortunately one time I fell right into a cactus......that was NOT fun at all! But fortunately, the motorcycle didn't land on top of me. These foothills are steep and sooo much fun to ride up and down!

Here I am at the top of the foothill and I don't know if you can tell or not, but once you get on top, there's just enough room to stop and then it goes right back down the other side. It took skill to stop on the top. You can see a slight slant down and then it drops straight down again.....it's the coolest thing! It sort of drops down like a roller coaster does......oh so scary, but oh so fun at the same time.

This is my brother riding a wheelie. He was such a dare devil! I preferred riding by myself because when I rode with him, he scared the livin' daylights, out of me. He was always doing tricks and stuff!

I'm So Relieved!

Today, I finally had to face something that I've been trying to prepare myself for, these past couple of years. It's funny how hard it is to let go of familiarity because it is SO comfortable! Sometimes change can be a scary thing, especially when it has to do with one of your children.......your most prized possession, here on this earth!

Today we finally took our daughter Kasey to meet with her new Adult Transplant Team. For those of you who don't already know.....our precious baby girl was born with a rare liver disease and had to have a Liver Transplant at the age of 7 months old and now that she is almost 20, her Pediatric Transplant Team has kicked her out of their nest. This was a little nerve racking for me, considering all that we've been through with that team of doctors, over the years. It's like they become a part of your family and you trust them like no one else because of the way they have cared for your daughter.

You form quite a bond with doctors who get upset and angry, when they find out your doctor has possibly waited too late and has put you and your baby on a plane to San Francisco, (where she had her transplant) while she was in critical condition and could have died on the plane. I mean don't we love it when someone cares enough to defend our children? That means a lot to me!

You form a bond with doctors who get upset and angry again, when your baby has almost slipped into a coma twice and they still haven't gotten a liver for her and then they have to tell you, that your daughter only has 1 to 3 days to live.

Again, you form more of a bond with them, when you see the pain in their eyes, as they tell you to prepare to lose her. Then on the morning of that 3rd day, as I ran down the hallway and grabbed the doctor by the arm, not even able to speak from the terror of it all, running together back to Kasey's room, you hear the panic in their voice as they're yelling instructions to the nurse and you see the grief in their eyes, as they're trying to keep her from slipping into a coma, knowing that she would never come out of it.............only to return later that day with the deepest relief in their eyes, as they tell you that they got a liver and they will be coming to get her soon, to start prepping her for the 11 hour surgery. You really do form the deepest, long lasting bond, with doctors that save your baby's life and care for her, for almost 20 years!

Now can you see why it was hard for me to imagine putting Kasey in the hands of strangers? Doctors who don't know her history, haven't rescued her from rejection, haven't dealt with all of her hospital stays, and haven't dealt with all 14 life threatening times that she has had chicken pox!

After having said all that, I am happy to say that I WAS SO RELIEVED today, after meeting the Doctor and the Transplant Coordinator. Kasey and I really liked them a lot and now I see that it is going to be a good transition! Of course, I do know that God will take care of her, just like He always has. He can work through this doctor's hands, the same way He did, with the other doctors!

Her Liver Day is coming up on April 26th. This is the day she was transplanted, so we treat it like a birthday because it was a day, that she was given life and given back to us!

After her appointment, we went to the Olive Garden for lunch.......oh how I love Olive Garden and then we topped off the day by going to the mall and doing some shopping. Kasey bought herself some really cute clothes, some jewelry and a new pair of sunglasses and I bought a couple of pairs of really cute shoes, that I love ohhh so much! I'll have to take a pic and post it for all of you to see. I LOVE SHOES! Then we finished off the day with a yummy......very fattening......gooey.......cinnabon! What more could a person ask for? After a wonderful day and the two hour drive home, I was exhausted, so as soon as I got home I went straight to bed and took a nap. Now that's the real way to finish off a great day!

Proper Commenting Etiquette

A few days ago I posed a question about proper commenting etiquette and today I would like to share with you what I found on the subject. Here is a link to my previous post and comments What IS Proper Blogging/Commenting Etiquette. My new blogger friend, Sara also posted this question on her blog, so if you would like to read her post and comments as well, click here.

First of all, I would like to say that I don't have the perfect answer to this question and I'm not here to inform you, as to whether you are doing it right or wrong.

I'd like to start out by telling you what made me start thinking about this in the first place. After visiting and reading other blogs, I noticed that some people never respond to their comments on their blogs. In fact, I have even left questions on a blog, only to find no response after returning several times looking for a reply, thus discouraging me to ever return to their blog.

When I am reading a blog's comments, I like to see the blogger responding and relating to their commenters. This to me, shows that there is a relationship there and that they actually care enough, to interact with their readers. After all, a relationship is a two way street. I mean if you're not going to respond, then you might as well not even have an interactive comment section available, right? I also noticed that some bloggers don't respond to their comments on their own blogs, instead they respond, on the commenter's blog, so I actually started doing it that way myself. This is what confused me and made me start searching for proper comment etiquette.

After searching and reading up on this subject, I have decided to go back to responding to comments on my own blog most of the time, instead of responding on their blog or emailing them, unless I am replying to a personal question or subject matter. I'm sure there will probably be times when I will respond on both my blog and theirs, like I did with someone last night. I just want to make sure my readers are not left out of whatever the discussion may be.

I'd like to leave you with some links that I found on the subject of Comment Etiquette. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

What IS Proper Blogging/Commenting Etiquette?

I'm hoping someone can answer this question about commenting for me because I'm just not sure what the proper etiquette is.

When I want to respond to a comment someone has left on my blog.....am I supposed to respond with a comment on MY blog or do I respond in a comment on THEIR blog?

I've been checking out other blogs to see what they do and I've seen both ways of responding, so which is it? I've also noticed, that there are some bloggers who don't respond at all or if they do, it is very rare and I know that is NOT proper blogger etiquette! Therefore, I am SO confused!

If any of you bloggers out there can help me out with this, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Flashback Friday ~ Andy's Mom & Dad

Grandma Thompson, Ken and Shirley! Andy said, this would have been around 1944 or '45, when dad was in the Airforce.

A beautiful Italian girl.....falls in love with an Irishman! (I don't know who the children are in this picture).

I absolutely love this picture of them?

Mom and Dad Roberts.......WE MISS YOU! There are so many things I miss, but I will just mention, one funny memory about mom, for today.
I miss those times when I would come home to find that somehow, mysteriously, a load of laundry had gotten washed, dried and put neatly away in all of our drawers. The dead giveaway was that, mom was the only one who had a key to my house and another clue was the fact that.........when I did the laundry........everything didn't come out pink! Could it be? Was there some little fairy running around with PINK FAIRY DUST, changing all of our clothes into a beautiful shade of pink? I THINK NOT!
Little did mom know, that I washed most of our clothes in cold water with Woolite (especially all of Kasey's hot pink outfits), so they wouldn't fade on all the other clothes. I was notoriously known, for getting stains out and let's just say, I was very meticulous about my laundry. Anyway, I found out that sometimes mom would get bored and wander across the field to find something to do.
Even though, I did ask Andy to please get my house key back (I'm cracking up just thinking about it right now) I couldn't get mad at her because she really thought she was doing me a favor, while keeping herself busy at the same time.
I guess she was just used to being busy, after raising 8 kids, milking all those cows twice a day, plus cooking and cleaning and taking care of her family. I don't think she knew what to do with idle time on her hands, plus I think the diabetes started getting out of control at that time and that might have had something to do with it also.
Seriously though, if I had the chance to have her back......I would give her a key to my house and let her sneak over and do a load of laundry, just to make her happy! I know pink isn't really in these days, but hey, maybe we could start a new fad! ~wink wink~
I miss her very much, but I'm so thankful for the memories, that I will always have! (Next time I will write something about dad)!

Driving Too Fast!

I got stopped for speeding the other day...

I thought I could talk my way out of it

until the policeman looked at my

dog in the back seat!

One Sign You're Driving Too Fast........

This one is destined to become a classic! If this doesn't make you laugh or at least smile ... you need to think seriously about getting professional assistance. This is too funny! (FYI, I didn't get stopped for speeding.....I just wanted to share this because I thought it was so cute!)
