Flashback Friday

I ran across these pictures the other day and thought I would show everyone, what a tomboy, I was. These were taken in Canon City, Colorado, when I was there for the summer. I was 16 at the time and I LOVED riding motorcycles! My favorite thing was riding up and down the foothills! They have tons of foothills there......they are also referred to as, hogbacks. You can find lots of fossils on them too and in the winter we would go sledding down them.

In this first picture, I am coming up the foothill......can you see me? I'm at the bottom of the hill! This picture doesn't show it, but a little past halfway up, it pretty much goes straight up the foothill, so if you don't make it, you're in trouble. I wiped out a couple of times and unfortunately one time I fell right into a cactus......that was NOT fun at all! But fortunately, the motorcycle didn't land on top of me. These foothills are steep and sooo much fun to ride up and down!

Here I am at the top of the foothill and I don't know if you can tell or not, but once you get on top, there's just enough room to stop and then it goes right back down the other side. It took skill to stop on the top. You can see a slight slant down and then it drops straight down again.....it's the coolest thing! It sort of drops down like a roller coaster does......oh so scary, but oh so fun at the same time.

This is my brother riding a wheelie. He was such a dare devil! I preferred riding by myself because when I rode with him, he scared the livin' daylights, out of me. He was always doing tricks and stuff!

  1. Wowzers, Debra! I think you were quite the dare devil too? Who knew? I stuck with the 4 wheelers myself. ;)

  2. Hahaha, I guess I WAS a little bit of a dare devil myself, but not now that I'm older. I'm afraid I've turned into a wimpy girl now. :) I enjoyed 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers too!

  4. Girl, you got more guts than me. I just will ride a bike up a hill, much less a motorcycle. Great pictures and I know good memories for you.

  5. How funny is that, we are going on vacation to Colorado this summer. Last night we were looking at pamphlets and saw this information about Canon City! We will have to get more details from you later! Love the picture of you on top of the hill!
    Have a great day!

  6. Yeah Michelle, even though I grew up doing tomboy type things, like riding motorcycles, playing football with my family and my brother and his friends and playing army in the woods, etc. I guess I always have liked girly things too.....like makeup, jewelry and cute shoes! :)

Oh and Tanya, you will have to go to the Royal Gorge, while in Colorado! My aunt worked there, so we went there a lot because we got in for free. I lived in Canon City for three years...beware, it gets hot there in the summer!

Molly, I'm with you....I'll just stick to riding a bike now....in fact I'm really wimpy now because I ride a tandem bike (two seater) with my husband. Oh the joys of getting old!

  7. I never would have guessed that you would do something like that! I never had a chance to do something like that. My cousin got hit by a car on a motorcycle and hurt pretty bad, so Mom would never let me near one. Jim hopes to go bike riding once he gets his knees done. That will be fun riding with the girls.:) By the way, were the sandals you wore Wednesday night some of the new shoes?

  8. Just sneaking over from With One Step - I can't imagine being out there a bike! We live near a large motocross raceway and have visited a few times. Incredible - so fast, so high in the air! So much of a chicken am I! :o)

    Nice to meet you!

  9. Dare devil I would say. You were brave and must of had no sense for safety, since there are NO helmets in these pictures!
    Glad you made it!
    Love ya,

  10. Hey DJ, can you go to Tanya's page at Miller Racing FAmily and see if you might be able to give her some advice on the three colums. I tried to help but I don't know where to get the instructions we used and it looks like she may have something wrong with her margins. Thank you! :)

  11. Kathy, I was a tough little thing back then! Mostly from being raised with a brother that was 4 yrs older and a sister who was 3 yrs older than me. I was always determined to keep up with them and do whatever they could do.

As for safety Misty.....we didn't even own helmets, so I guess we had no sense at all! lol

Michelle, I email a tutorial to Tanya and I hope it helps to fix it for her.

Denise, thans for stopping by for a visit and it is nice to meet you too!

  12. I'm so glad you left a comment today so that I could come visit you. I've enjoyed reading your recent posts, and I love the pics in the sidebar because they remind me of being at about the same place in life as you in the 80s and 90s.
